IQuum Selected for Participation in Phase III DHS BAND Program

Marlborough, MA, January 4, 2007 – IQuum Inc. announced today that it has been selected by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology Directorate, Chemical and Biological Division for participation in a Phase III effort to continue development of the Liat™ Bioagent Autonomous Networked Detector (BAND), a "detect-to-treat" system for round-the-clock, distributed monitoring of outdoor urban areas for bacteria, viruses and toxins. In this effort, IQuum will complete the development of its Liat™ BAND instrument, disposables cartridge and manufacturing capabilities, as well as submit the system for further government testing.

"We are very please to receive this Phase III selection from DHS,” said Dr. Shuqi Chen, CEO of IQuum. “We are highly encouraged by our development results in Phase II and look forward to completing the system integration and providing fully operational Liat BAND systems to meet our nation’s biodefense needs.”

IQuum's Liat™ BAND system combines proven technologies in a novel form and introduces a powerful new method for multiplexed agent detection. The system consists of two components: a disposable cartridge containing all reagents necessary for testing in a fully-enclosed format, and an analyzer that automates air-sampling, cartridge handling, detection, and real-time result reporting. Tailored for the BAND system, the Liat platform enables rapid, sensitive, and fully automated biological sample testing. Under this project, IQuum will also complete the development of required assays for detecting and monitoring multiple toxin and microbial agents at the same time.

After completion of Phase III, the BAND system will be considered for deployment in thousands of public areas including airports, government buildings, and commercial complexes, and will protect against potential bioterrorism by detecting the presence of airborne bioagents.
