IQuum Awarded SBIR-NIH Grant for Development of Liat Technology for Point-of-Care Genotyping

Allston, MA, July 1, 2004 -- IQuum, Inc. announced today that the company has been awarded a $154,086 phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to develop a high-level multiplex real time assay for detecting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) at the point-of-care using IQuum's innovative Lab-in-a-tube (Liat™) technology.

This research project leverages the unique capabilities of the Liat technology and novel multiplexing strategy to fulfill the need for a rapid, fully-automated, easy-to-use, closed tube sample testing device that can score a moderate number of single nucleotide polymorphisms with minimal cost. Once developed, the Liat system for point-of-care genotyping will facilitate the use of "just-in-time" genotyping in the practice of medicine to evaluate the risks associated with new prescription drugs, in decisions regarding urgent medical procedures, and in other critical applications.
