IQuum Announces New Product: Liat FlowCycler for Multi-sample Processing
Allston, MA, July 14, 2005 – IQuum, Inc. today announced a new product to extend the capabilities of the lab-in-a-tube platform to multi-sample processing. Following the successful launch of its Liat Analyzer, IQuum’s single sample fully automated nucleic acid test system, the new Liat FlowCycler is expected to offer the world’s fastest real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for up to 48 or 96 samples at the same time.
“The Liat FlowCycler is a first step in the evolution of the company’s proprietary lab-in-a-tube platform from single sample testing, as in the Liat Analyzer, to multi-sample testing” said Dr. Shuqi Chen, CEO of IQuum. “Together, the Liat Analyzer and Liat FlowCycler will cover a wide spectrum of applications to meet the entire range of nucleic acid testing throughput and automation needs. We expect that the Liat platform will have a significant impact on the molecular diagnostic, life-science research, industrial testing as well as biodefense fields.”
As in the Liat Analyzer, the Liat FlowCycler uses “flow cycling” to avoid the thermal block ramping used in traditional PCR thermal cyclers, and allows the system to achieve very rapid reactions without sacrificing efficiency or reaction volume. Tests have shown that the Liat systems can complete 30 cycles on a 50μl reaction volume in as little as 7 minutes, much faster than even the fastest commercially available thermal cyclers. In addition to its speed, the Liat FlowCycler will offer significant flexibility and expandability. The system can amplify up to 48 samples in parallel using 8-tube Liat Tube Strips, which are compatible with 8-tube strips in 96 well format. Throughput can also be further scaled up to 96 samples by using higher capacity 16-tube Liat Tube Strips.
The FlowCycler’s two independent bays can concurrently perform two separate reactions, allowing the system to be used as two independent PCR thermal cyclers. Additionally, the FlowCycler provides integrated four channel fluorescence detection for each tube, allowing quantitative and qualitative analysis of multiple targets in real time.
IQuum will debut the Liat FlowCycler at the 2005 AACC Clinical Lab Expo, booth 735, Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida, July 26 to 28. More information about the Liat FlowCycler can be found at IQuum’s website www.IQuum.com.
