IQuum Receives SBIR-NIH Phase II Grant for Development of Lab-in-a-Tube Blood Testing System

Allston, MA, August 15, 2002 -- IQuum, Inc. has been awarded a $1.4 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase II grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) for the development of the Liat™ diagnostic blood testing system. The system is aimed at meeting the growing demand for practical near-patient testing.

Based on the Company's lab-in-a-tube technology, the Liat blood testing system will use novel sample handling, microfluidic, and imaging technologies to achieve system miniaturization, low cost, high flexibility, and improved safety. In this Phase II research, the company will continue the development of the lab-in-a-tube platform initiated in the Phase I efforts and develop platelet function and coagulation assays as the first applications for the Liat blood testing system.
