IQuum Awarded U.S. Department of Defense Contract for Development of Field-portable Nucleic Acid Detection System

Allston, MA, September 30, 2003 -- IQuum, Inc. has been awarded a $2.46 million contract from the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) at the Edgewood Chemical Biological Center (ECBC) for the development of a field-portable nucleic acid detection system. Under this contract, the Company will develop the Liat™ Molecular Analyzer and Liat™ Tube, as well as specialized manufacturing devices and bioassays.

This nucleic acid detection system will enable minimally trained personnel to perform sophisticated nucleic acid testing in the field or at the point-of-care with greater speed. Based on the lab-in-a-tube platform, the Liat system will allow raw biological samples to be collected directly into a Liat Tube, and automatically conducts all nucleic acid testing steps, including DNA/RNA extraction, amplification and detection within the closed Liat Tube. This project will greatly advance biological sample testing technology, and provide significant benefits to the military in the war against bioterrorism, and to civilian healthcare.

About IQuum, Inc.

IQuum is a leader in developing lab-in-a-tube technology, a novel biological sample testing platform intended to provide revolutionary benefits to a broad cross section of the bioassay market. The Company's proprietary technology will enable the less experienced professional to perform more sophisticated biological sample testing in a less expensive setting with greater speed. The lab-in-a-tube platform is the foundation of next generation tools for clinical diagnostics, biodefense, and industrial testing. Founded in 1998, IQuum is located in the Boston metropolitan area in Massachusetts. For more information, please visit www.IQuum.com.
