So simple and so fast
The Liat Analyzer automates all nucleic acid testing (NAT) processes, including reagent preparation, target enrichment, inhibitor removal, nucleic acid extraction, amplification and real-time detection. The system refines nucleic acid testing to three simple steps: collecting a raw biological sample such as whole blood into a Liat Tube and capping the tube, scanning the tube's barcode, and inserting the tube into the Liat Analyzer. The analyzer automatically executes all the required assay steps without further operator intervention. The test is completed and interpreted results are reported in as little as 20 minutes on the analyzer’s built-in touch screen, allowing accurate results to be delivered immediately for better and timely clinical decision making.

Closed tube design prevents contamination
The Liat Analyzer utilizes the Liat Tube, which comprises a flexible tube as the sample vessel and contains all assay reagents pre-packed in tube segments. The all-inclusive Liat Tube allows all assay manipulations to be conducted within the confines of the tube for a truly closed tube system. No reagent or waste needs to be added or removed from the tube. After a test is completed, the biohazardous waste remains enclosed in the tube for safe disposal. This closed tube design negates the need for specialized molecular testing facilities and minimizes biohazard risks to the operator.

Small yet powerful
The Liat Analyzer is small yet fully integrated. The system does not require an external computer, and is equipped with network and other built-in connectivity ports. The system weights only 8.3 lbs and has a footprint of only 4.3”x8”. Capable of being battery or AC powered, the Liat Analyzer provides maximum operational flexibility for near-patient use.
Despite its small size, the Liat Analyzer provides the same or better performance compared to current centralized lab-based nucleic acid tests. The Liat system accommodates a variety of sample matrices, including whole blood, plasma, urine, and swab samples, and utilizes gold-standard nucleic acid test chemistries, including silica bead-based nucleic acid extraction, immunomagnetic sample enrichment, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and reverse transcriptase PCR (RT-PCR), and real-time and end-point detection methods.
To automate these processes, multiple sample processing actuators in the Liat Analyzer compress the Liat Tube to manipulate the sample and control reaction conditions. An internal optical system provides six independent optical detection channels for real-time monitoring and quantification, allowing for internal controls and multiplex detection in each test.
The small size and rapid turnaround time of the Liat system provide incredible flexibility and scalability. One Liat Analyzer can perform as many as 10-20 tests per day. This throughput can easily be scaled by utilizing multiple Liat Analyzers. For example, four analyzers, having only the footprint of a keyboard, can perform 40-80 tests per day.

Intelligent and reliable
To aid the operator and provide reliable results, the Liat Analyzer incorporates a variety of intelligent and advanced features: Barcode data entry avoids errors in sample or assay coding. On-screen prompts provide easy to follow directions to guide the operator through sample loading and tube insertion. Sample metering capabilities ensure that the correct volume of sample is used for the test, or outputs a warning if insufficient sample volume is added. A comprehensive set of sensors further monitors system operations in real-time, and automatically recovers from errors or aborts the assay to prevent incorrect results from being reported. An internal control contained in each Liat tube is processed and detected with the sample to ensure the proper function of each step of the assay process. PCR curve pattern recognition and automated data interpretation provides results in plain English. Combined, these sophisticated features ensure the quality of results when testing is performed by minimally trained operators.

Tomorrow’s diagnostics today
The ease-of-use, sample-to-result automation, and closed tube design of the Liat system allows molecular diagnostics to be performed on-demand in hospitals and other near-patient sites. Advanced and intelligent features ensure reliable system operation, while the integrated design provides efficient use of lab space and easy throughput scalability. Combined with the fastest turnaround time and high assay sensitivity and specificity, the Liat system produces accurate results immediately, increasing healthcare efficiency and providing better patient outcomes.
